Reality Check

Finally, the government has capitulated and accepted the reality by accepting the enforcement of Shariah in the Swat and Malakand division. It is a ominous sign of the growing power of the Taliban and their kind. But the past few years has shown that the solution to the problem is not through military means only. The Americans don't give a damn about us, their call is always 'to do more' and by pursuing this path we are on our way to becoming another Iraq.

We have to find our own way through this mess created by Zia and exacerbated by Musharraf. There is no doubt in my mind, that these militants are getting enough support and training not only from our premier nemesis but forces beyond that as well. I do not buy into conspiracy theories but the reality is that Pakistan's Nuclear weapons are a sore sight not only for our eastern neighbour but Israelis as well. It is time that we stand up and show some backbone both to the extremists as well as to the Americans. The priority should be to cleanup the mess at home and one of the ways to do it is to stop killing our own people on the behest of foreign powers.

Welcome back !

I seems like this capitulation is the biggest blunder the state of Pakistan has ever made. The Taliban devour the nation. For my countrymen I can give just this call - "Barbarians at the gates !!!"

We are all Barbarians ourselves. What would you call the people who burnt people alive and raped pillaged on will in the state of Gujrat? There is no option but to negotiate with these fascists in Swat. Obviously, they are getting a lot of support from outside which makes things even trickier.

In a country where there will be injustice, forces like taliban will always be welcomed, do you know taliban courts are giving 100% justice to ppl in 3 sittings, in our country decisions are being prolonged for 40 yeras in courts, if it does not change then gentlemen get ready taliban will be soon coming to lhi. Lhr and Isb as well

I think the Taliban is smarter than we give them credit for. It has absorbed its lessons extremely well from its tactical errors in Afghanistan.

Take over swat from the inside insidiously. Tommorrow who knows!

But really who are the extremistists, who are the militants, and who are the terrorists, who are friends and who are foes. Perceptions vary. There is little concensus. So how many people can you kill/stop/arrest/rehab/make enemies of/make friends of to make things "right". And what is right anyway?

@Luscious
You got me wrong :P. By Barbarians I meant the Taliban. They are almost at our borders now, and we need to worry. By the way Gujarat was a response, not a totally unprovoked action...

Well Pakistan is really reverting to its roots now, after 60 years of her creation we are not resorting to Shriat Law (which was its original destination). Although I am gonna have to change my life style a bit like growing a beard eyc I will welcome it. It isnt barbarians at gates for me, its the ultimate solution of mankinds problems afterall.
Best of luck to Taliban then

So we have supporters of Talibs here as well :D

I had this queer feeling for quite sometime that a strong Pakistan is much better for India than a chaotic one .... and now it is time to get worried because we see the state failing. It is always very worry some to have a disturbed nation as one's neighbor

@Asim - Pakistan was not created for shariah or to be a theocratic state. Please have a look at the history books. The pro-shariah Mullahs were hell bent against the creation of Pakistan.

Pakistanis at heart are spiritual people but they are not fundamentalists, no matter how much Saudi money is poured into the country.
